San Diego FC (SDFC) has made a groundbreaking addition to its ownership group, welcoming Grammy Award-winning Nigerian singer Tems to its ranks. Through her company, The Leading Vibe, Tems brings her unparalleled creativity, global influence, and dedication to community development to the world of football.
Tems joins forces with Pave Investments, a leading African private investment firm renowned for its role in NBA Africa’s 2021 investment initiative. Alongside her, Tunde Folawiyo, Chairman of Pave Investments, and Kwamena Afful, Founding Director, are also stepping into ownership roles with the club. Together, they aim to amplify San Diego FC’s mission to inspire and empower communities, with a particular focus on youth development through the Right to Dream Academy—a globally recognized football system dedicated to nurturing young talent.
San Diego FC Chairman Sir Mohamed Mansour praised Tems as a “globally significant artist” whose influence will help introduce the club’s vision to new audiences worldwide. CEO Tom Penn echoed this sentiment, emphasizing how Tems’ passion for uplifting young people aligns seamlessly with the club’s core values. “Her presence will help bridge the worlds of music, culture, and sport, creating a powerful synergy,” Penn added.
Tems, who was recently seen courtside at the Knicks vs. Celtics game in New York, expressed her enthusiasm for this new venture. “Football has a unique way of bringing people together, and I’m excited to help build something special in San Diego—a city that thrives on diversity and innovation,” she shared.
With this move, Tems joins an impressive roster of Club Partners, including actress Issa Rae, World Cup winner Juan Mata, retired U.S. Navy SEAL Jocko Willink, and baseball star Manny Machado. Her involvement not only elevates the club’s profile but also underscores its commitment to fostering connections across music, sports, and culture.
