AGF Reveals Missing Case Files in Former CJN Onnoghen's Appeal Five Years After Trial

The Attorney General's office shocked the Court of Appeal on Tuesday by revealing it no longer possesses the case file for the 2019 trial of former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Samuel Walter Onnoghen, who was removed from office and had assets forfeited after being found guilty of false asset declaration.

The federal government’s representative, Tijani Gazali (SAN), explained that a private lawyer who handled the case had passed away, and efforts are now underway to retrieve documents from his chambers. The court granted an accelerated hearing of Onnoghen's appeal and scheduled the next hearing for September 19.
