Five-time Olympic gold medalist Elaine Thompson-Herah of Jamaica will not compete in the 200 meters at the upcoming Paris Olympics. The 31-year-old sprinter will focus solely on defending her 100-meter title and will not participate in the Jamaican trials for the 200 meters.
This decision comes after Thompson-Herah appeared to sustain an injury during the 100 meters at the NYC Grand Prix earlier in June. She remains the second-fastest woman ever in the 100 meters and holds a historic record as the first woman to win back-to-back Olympic sprint doubles (100m and 200m) at the Tokyo 2020 Games.
In November, Thompson-Herah switched coaches, parting ways with Shanikie Osbourne and joining forces with Reynaldo Walcott. Walcott also coaches her Jamaican teammate and fellow sprint legend, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.
The Paris Olympics will see athletes compete in track and field events from August 1st to 11th.
