Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag's summer vacation took a surprising turn when the club's board flew to Ibiza to assure him of his future.
Ten Hag's position seemed uncertain after a disappointing eighth-place finish in the Premier League last season. However, leading the Red Devils to FA Cup victory seems to have convinced the club of his value.
"The club management came to me on holiday in Ibiza," Ten Hag revealed on Dutch TV channel NOS. "They showed up unexpectedly and told me they wanted me to stay."
While new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe reportedly explored options, including former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, Manchester United ultimately backed Ten Hag.
"They told me they spoke with Tuchel," Ten Hag said, "but decided they already have the best manager."
The new ownership group, Ineos, acknowledged their inexperience in football. "It's normal to reflect on the season," Ten Hag added. "They talked to other managers, which is no secret."
Despite the dramatic Ibiza meeting, Ten Hag's contract situation remains unresolved. "Manchester United and I still need to find an agreement," he confirmed. Negotiations are ongoing, but Ten Hag appears to be set to stay at the helm.
