French superstar Kylian Mbappe's dream of playing for his home country at the Paris Olympics has been dashed by his new club, Real Madrid.
The 25-year-old striker, who previously expressed his desire to compete in the Games, was not included in the provisional squad due to Real Madrid's policy against players participating in both Euro 2024 and the Olympics.
Mbappe, who will join Real Madrid on a free transfer after his PSG contract expires, understands the club's position. "It's not the best way to start an adventure at a new team," he said.
While disappointed, Mbappe remains a strong supporter of the French Olympic team. "I'll be cheering them on and hope they win the gold," he added.
The men's Olympic football tournament starts just ten days after the Euro 2024 final, making participation in both events a logistical challenge. The Olympic competition allows three over-age players per team, a category Mbappe would have fallen under.
France, considered a favorite for Euro 2024 glory, will have to chase their championship dreams without their star striker on the Olympic stage.
