Marcus Rashford, the 26-year-old Manchester United forward, has been surprisingly left out of Gareth Southgate's initial selection for Euro 2024. This comes after a disappointing season where he managed just seven goals in the league.
The official squad announcement is scheduled for today, Tuesday, at 2:00 PM BST.
Southgate has opted to include several uncapped players in the provisional squad. These include Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite (21), Liverpool's center-back pairing of Curtis Jones (23) and Jarell Quansah (21), and Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton (20).
Wharton's Palace teammates Marc Guehi (defender), Eberechi Eze (midfielder), and Dean Henderson (goalkeeper) have also received call-ups.
Several established names are included in the training squad, which will likely consist of around 30 players. This group features Chelsea defender Levi Colwill, West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen, and Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.
Reports suggest experienced players like Ajax midfielder Jordan Henderson and Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling have been left out.
Manchester City's Jack Grealish, Brentford's Ivan Toney, Manchester United's young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo (19), and left-back Luke Shaw are all part of Southgate's initial selection.
Southgate has until June 7th to finalize his 26-man squad for the tournament in Germany.
The provisional squad will assemble on Wednesday, May 29th, ahead of friendlies against Bosnia-Herzegovina (June 3rd) and Iceland (June 7th).
England's Euro 2024 campaign kicks off on June 16th with a Group C clash against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen.
