According to SaharaReporters, Onakoya kicked off his attempt on Wednesday, seeking to surpass the current record for the longest chess marathon. He announced his endeavor via his social media handle, expressing his motivation to undertake the challenge for the sake of millions of underserved children across Africa who lack access to education.
Onakoya's marathon, organized in Times Square, New York City, spans 58 consecutive hours from 10 a.m. on April 17 to 8:00 p.m. on April 19, as reported by Tiltify.
As of 4:53 p.m. on Thursday, his social media page announced that he had completed matches with 60 opponents within the first 24 hours. The focus remains on raising one million dollars to promote chess among children worldwide.
Despite the onset of fatigue, Onakoya and his team remain resolute, emphasizing the importance of continued support and donations to sustain the effort.
